STRUTS 2024 FALL 2024 STRUTS PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
This program is subject to change and addition. Check back here often.
Sep 6, 5-7pm
Cinq-à-Sept
Casual welcome reception for visiting artist Kriss Li and Chris Down’s Apologies.
Until Sep 12
Exhibition: Sara Hartland-Rowe | Trees, Animals and Things
Trees, Animals and Things forefronts the experience – so common in childhood -- of an imaginary world that exists within familiar things. Using found-object sculpture, free-standing painting, and photography, I work with colour phenomena, pareidolia (seeing meaningful image in inanimate form), and recognition of expressive gesture to make an uncanny world of colour and object.
Until Sep 13
Living is Easy Members’ Project | Chris Down, Apologies
Sep 5 – Oct 9
Open Studio Residency | Kriss Li
Kriss Li is a multimedia artist who creates films, installations, and conceptual projects that explore structures of power. These works investigate the foundational divisions and hierarchies that maintain our social order—the ways these systems condition us in spite of our intentions, and the hidden sites of possibility that we can exploit towards greater collective capacities. Kriss's artistic practice is informed by extensive engagement with community organizing, especially at Prisoner Correspondence Project, a volunteer-run solidarity initiative for LGBTQ prisoners where they've been a collective member since 2009.
While at Struts, Kriss Li will be working on their project 693, a hybrid film about the federal women's prison system in Canada.
Wednesday, September 18, 7pm
Filming Screening | YINTAH a film directed by Jennifer Wickham, Brenda Michell, and Michael Toledano
YINTAH tells the story of an Indigenous nation’s fight for sovereignty as they resist the construction of multiple oil and fracked-gas pipelines across their territory. Over the period of a decade, the film follows Tsakë ze’ Howilhkat Freda Huson, Tsakë ze’ Sleydo’ Molly Wickham, and their fellow land defenders as they reoccupy their traditional territory and galvanize their nation in a fight against several of the largest fossil fuel companies on earth
Sep 27 – Nov 29
