March 10-22
Opening March 10
Toys, carousels, and circus tricks; we have been conditioned from a young age that animals, and the idea of them, are at our disposal. A Pawn and a King works to dissect the role of cruelty in the Entertainment Industry and shed light on the unnatural power dynamic that is all too present in our world: Animals exist for us. Through recognizable childhood imagery, I meld plastic and flesh, synthetic and real, to bring forth similarities in the treatment of animals in society with their man-made counterparts. These works begin to peel back the layers of manipulation, coercion, and confinement that plague this flashy but costly industry.
