New Brunswick is dominated by industries, while also being a site of geographical intrigue and beauty. Growing up here, I was steeped in the influence of these combined and ongoing histories. I have a long standing fascination in photography with the intersection of human-made structures and nature. This series was made to explore the contrast between a dilapidated local industry, and the wildlife that has sprouted from the rubble.
About the artist
Riley Small is a 4th year Bachelor of Fine Arts student at Mount Allison University, originally from Willow Grove, New Brunswick. Their art practice documents ephemeral relationships and lived experiences in rural areas. Much of their work is inspired by local history.
