While in residence at Struts & Faucet Andrew John Milne will advance his photographic practice using a large handmade camera obscura and vintage surveying equipment to render hybrid photographic drawings and spatial models. He will be working outside the gallery in public spaces, within the Museum of New Ideas, and within Struts Gallery and Faucet Media Arts Centre.
The Museum of New Ideas is a mobile exhibition space and darkroom in a truck that will be used to transport the large camera to Sackville. The Museum functions as a working darkroom allowing for insitu development of photographic test prints and large negatives. As a gallery space it offers a 5ft x 5ft exhibition space accessible via a small folding staircase.
At the age of 31 years old Andrew John Milne quit his career as an Engineering Technologist in Vancouver and began a self-taught artistic practice involving photography, sculpture and contemporary dance. He develops technologies, devices and machines that act as both product and process within his art practice. Milne is the Founder, Artistic Director and Custodian of the Museum of New Ideas and is a founding member of Bent Light a Winnipeg based post cinematic collective.
