Leah has presented various exhibits throughout Canada and the United States, and has participated in two other residency programs. In 2004, she was at The Banff Center for the Arts, in Banff, Alberta where she participated in the Informal Architectural Thematic Residency. In 2004 she was also at the Macdowell Colony, in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Over the course of her Open Studio residency here at Struts, Leah will work on producing an installation of sculpture and drawings which will explore her interests in both physics and architecture. Through her work, Leah addresses scale, physical phenomenon, illusion, logic, and the representation of space. She will ask us to question how science and architecture construct physical space and philosophical cosmologies, the ideas used to understand the origin, evolution, and the ultimate fate of the universe. Leah's drawings map the containment and expansion of space through architectural renderings and abstract representations of 'star' formations. Her tent sculpture, inspired by her interest in how we construct outer space from a culturally determined interior space, are constructed using blackened drapery, second hand sheets, tent poles and old pillows. These sculptures will continue a series she began in 2003 entitled 'private planetarium.' By puncturing the fabric based on the original design on the sheets, she will allow the viewer sitting inside to look up and observe distinctly different star groupings.
