Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens
Artist-in-Residence
July 18 - August 28

Ibghy and Lemmens both received degrees from Concordia University with an emphasis on photography. Collaboratively they have exhibited widely through Canada; in Montréal at the VAV Gallery; in Halifax at the Eye Level Gallery and in Fredericton at Connexion Gallery as well as abroad at the Tao House of Contemporary Arts in Budapest and at the 2003 International Performance Festival of Barcelona, Spain.

What does this innovative and exciting pair do? Audio, video, performances, public interventions as well as photographic series. Both artists use a variety of media to make multi layered scenes and scenarios that incorporate narrative elements.

During their stay in Sackville, Ibghy and Lemmens plan on giving workshops on audio art, informing those taking part to the history of audio art, its practices and some of the artists working primarily with the medium. The workshops will involve listening to audio art, learning basic techniques of audio recording and editing. The final product will be included in an audio art festival entitled Art in the Air that will be invading Sackville's airwaves in August. The festival will expose local audiences in the Sackville-Moncton corridor to the playful side of audio art.

Their work attempt to bring attention to experiences that are familiar yet rarely articulated or routinely ignored. Their current wave of angst has led them to explore the gap between the actual life they lead and the ideal life for which they long. In attempting to bride the gap between these two states they have discovered it to be an integral part of the human condition. From July 18 to August 28, they will be in Sackville pursuing their exploration of the matter. They are requesting help from community members for a recorded discussion, to pose for their camera, or simply to discuss the subject of real life versus ideal life casually over a cup of coffee.
